Air Serbia commences flights to Izmir and Lisbon
Today, on 15 April 2023, with the flight JU820 at 12:40pm, Air Serbia launched a direct service between Belgrade and Izmir, while the flight JU490 at 1:15pm marked the launch of a direct route to Lisbon. The national airline will be operating flights to the third largest city in Turkey twice a week, every Wednesday and Saturday, and flights to Portugal’s capital will be operated on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Air Serbia’s inaugural flights were welcomed at Adnan Menderes Airport, located 18 kilometres south of Izmir on the route to Selçuk, Ephesus and Pamukkale, and at Humberto Delgado Airport, located seven kilometres outside of Lisbon.
“With the addition of Izmir to our network, we have further expanded Air Serbia’s presence in Turkey and brought the Balkans and Anatolia closer together. Not far from Izmir are some of the most popular summer resorts and historical monuments, which makes it even more interesting to tourists. We believe that direct flights will be one of the deciding factors when choosing the next destination in the east to visit. In the opposite direction of Izmir is the magical Lisbon. With today’s flight, we have opened the doors to the city where nostalgic and melancholic fado melodies are sang accompanied by guitar. You don’t have to understand the lyrics to feel the emotion. You only need to visit some of the ‘casas de fado’ in Alfama, Mouraria, or Bairro Alto areas, and you will quickly understand why Lisbon is one of the most popular destinations for tourists in the world. Portugal is a country with an exceptional range of different landscapes, lots of leisure activities, and a unique cultural heritage, where tradition and modernity blend in perfect harmony. It is also known for its superb cuisine, fine wines, and hospitable people,” said Boško Rupić, Air Serbia General Manager Commercial and Strategy.
Izmir is one of the oldest Turkish cities. It has always been a centre of commerce and culture, and an important point in maritime routes. Today, it’s one of the most important port cities in the Mediterranean, decorated by impressive sandy beaches and the turquoise Aegean Sea. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate, it is sunny throughout the year.
From Izmir, via Belgrade, the national airline enables good connections with Berlin, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Zurich, Vienna, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Budapest, Podgorica, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Milan and Nuremberg.
Portugal has a mild climate, 3000 hours of sunshine per year, and 850 kilometres of splendid beaches bathed by the Atlantic Ocean. Lisbon is also blessed with a climate that attracts tourists all 365 days of the year. The summer temperatures are cooled by the Atlantic breeze, while winters are mild and warm. It is located on seven hills, providing a fantastic view of the picturesque, romantic, and vibrant city. The beaches are only a few minutes away from the city centre, which makes it particularly interesting. One of the sunniest capitals in Europe will certainly not leave you feeling indifferent.
Air Serbia offers passengers good connections from Lisbon, via Belgrade, to Athens, Larnaca, Istanbul, Zurich, Podgorica, Bucharest, Skopje, Ohrid, Thessaloniki, Sofia, Budapest, Vienna, Zagreb, Tivat, Tirana, Ljubljana, Sarajevo and other cities in the network.
