Air Serbia to reduce fuel consumption and gas emission

01 April 2021

As a part of activities carried out with the aim to protect the environment, Air Serbia has implemented the "SkyBreathe" mobile application, a program for monitoring and controlling fuel consumption, intended for flight crew.

The mobile application provides Air Serbia pilots with an insight into all the flights they have carried out, with the ability to analyse each stage of the flight, compare deviations between the implementation and the plan, as well as to monitor the successfulness of initiatives implemented to reduce emission of gasses. The application also offers pilots a plethora of information which can help with their activities before take-off and after the flight itself.

"Care for the environment represents an inseparable part of our everyday operations and we are satisfied that the initiatives we launched are yielding results. During 2019, we have managed to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by almost three thousand tons. Our pilots are the main contributors to our fuel consumption reduction, because the procedures toward this goal are generally undertaken during flights. The use of this mobile application will further enhance the optimization process, and we are looking forward to every new step toward a more sustainable future of the airline industry," stated Duncan Naysmith, CEO of Air Serbia.

Recognizing the need for caring for the future of our planet as one of the key topics for the entire society, since 2013, Air Serbia has been actively participating in the EU ETS process, which includes monitoring of carbon-dioxide emissions in the territory of the European Union, and as of 2019, also in the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) by the International Civil Aviation Organization. In the beginning of October 2020, Air Serbia became a part of the "SkyBreathe" community, and joined the ranks of international airlines which use this special software intended to protect the environment.
