New conditions for entry of "third country" passengers to Switzerland
As of 21 August 2013, "third country" nationals entering Switzerland or transiting through Switzerland while traveling to other Schengen countries must have passports valid at least three months after the date of departure from the Schengen Area. New regulations also require the passports to have been issued within the past ten years. "Third country" nationals without a return ticket or a ticket for further travel to non Schengen countries may be refused entry to Switzerland.
These regulations were introduced by the Swiss federal immigration authorities and they do not pertain to third country nationals in possession of a Schengen Area residence permit or an extended stay visa, or to citizens of EU, EEA, or Switzerland and their family members enjoying the right of free movement.
