Air Serbia participates at the World exhibition Expo Milano 2015
Air Serbia announced it had kicked off today its participation in the Universal Exhibition, "Expo Milano 2015", this year's most notable and influential global showcase, which takes place between 1 May and 31 October, 2015.
From 14 May to 20 May, Air Serbia will hold daily presentations at the impressive Alitalia and Etihad Airways' two-storey, 1,150 square-meter pavilion, which has a prime location at the expo site, right next to the host-country's "Palazzo Italia". Air Serbia's airline group partners, Alitalia and Etihad Airways, are Official Global Carriers of Expo Milano 2015.
Dane Kondić, Air Serbia Chief Executive Officer, said: "It is truly a privilege to be able to take part in the Expo this year, alongside our group partners, and present the achievements and initiatives of our airline to a global audience. This is an unparalleled opportunity not only to raise awareness of Air Serbia, but also another platform to proudly showcase our home country to the world, fully in tune with both the "Connecting the World" concept of our airlines' group pavilion and the critically important main topic of this year's Expo."
In line with the Expo Milano 2015 overarching theme of "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life", Air Serbia aims to attract visitor's interest for the airline and its country of origin by proudly presenting two main areas of its activity and initiative.
One segment of the multi-media presentation introduces the audience to Air Serbia's highly acclaimed in-flight food and beverage offer, presented by its Head Chef Zoran Mišković, who is there to explain the menus and their rotation cycles. Air Serbia's catering arm goes to great lengths to use the freshest natural locally-sourced ingredients and to include organically grown products in its meals. Mister Mišković will also proudly present typically Serbian dishes, such as "Urnebes" salad and "Uštipci", which are extremely popular with guests of all nationalities. Among them, a special place will be reserved for the most sought-after menu item, the traditional walnut cookie "Orasnica", which is fast becoming Air Serbia's signature cookie. To complement these exquisite tastes, Radovanović Winery will recommend a selection of its superb wines born from the hills of Šumadija in the heart of Serbia, carefully crafted combining age-old traditions and state-of-the-art technology. The distinctive Radovanović Rhine Riesling, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, as well as their range of Cabernets, will perfectly match the menus on offer. Visitors to the pavilion have the opportunity to sample some of these and other menu delights.
Another important component of the presentation is the airline's sustainability agenda, expressed through its fuel efficiency program, and its contribution to the aviation industry's commitment to reduce carbon emissions and the achievement of IATA's target to reach carbon neutrality by 2050.
Within its fuel efficiency program, Air Serbia achieves results by carefully controlling key parameters, such as the weight of the aircraft, cleanliness to preserve perfect aerodynamics, length of flight routes and optimal speed of the aircraft. The airline's pilots and first officers are being continuously trained how to be more efficient on the ground and in the air. In contributing to the objectives of the industry, Air Serbia is committed to operate aircraft with the latest technology.
Over the six-month period of the Expo, Milan will become a global showcase where more than 140 participating countries will show the best of their technology that offers a concrete answer to a vital need: being able to guarantee healthy, safe and sufficient food for everyone, while respecting the Planet and its equilibrium. In addition to the exhibitor nations, the Expo also involves international organizations, and expects to welcome over 20 million visitors to its 1.1 million square meters of exhibition area. Within this theme, Expo 2015 will give visitors the opportunity to find out about, and taste, the world's best dishes, while discovering the best of the agri-food and gastronomic traditions of each of the exhibitor countries.
The Expo is a Universal Exposition that is organized by a competing country that wins the bid to host the event and involves the participation of other invited nations. The first Expo was held in London in 1851, and its success prompted other countries to organize similar events such as the Paris Expo in 1889, memorable for its Eiffel Tower. Each Expo is dedicated to a topic of universal interest.
