Air Serbia to upgrade Check-In System at Belgrade Airport
24 February 2014
Air Serbia, the national airline of Serbia, will this month mark another milestone in its journey to become a leading regional carrier, when it replaces its legacy check-in system at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla International Airport.
The project will see Air Serbia move from its existing check-in system known as Gaeten, to a new state-of-the-art platform called SabreSonic check-in, on Tuesday 25 February 2014.
Dane Kondić, Chief Executive Officer of Air Serbia, said: "Once complete, this important systems upgrade will enhance the Air Serbia customer experience at Belgrade International Airport, streamline how we handle our passengers, deliver functionality for check-in which until now wasn't possible, and ultimately, provide a new and more efficient departure control system for our staff at our hub."
The first flight to use the new check-in system on 25 February will be Air Serbia's JU380 flight from Belgrade to London Heathrow, scheduled for departure at 10.40am. Full systems migration is expected to be complete by 27 February.
To ensure a smooth check-in experience during the cutover period, Air Serbia asks all its passengers flying from Belgrade between 25 to 27 February to follow two simple guidelines:
- Arrive at Belgrade airport at least three hours ahead of the scheduled flight departure time;
- Bring a printed copy of their booking confirmation and/or travel itinerary with them to the airport.
In preparation for the cutover on 25 February, Air Serbia has already trained more than 100 staff in the new SabreSonic Check-in system, and the airline's plans for a seamless cutover are well underway.
Passengers travelling between 25 and 27 February are currently being contacted, as are travel agents who have booked and issued tickets for Air Serbia customers.
Closer to the cutover date special signage will appear at Belgrade airport and at Air Serbia's Travel Shop in Belgrade, to remind customers of the new systems upgrade.
The airline's website will also feature a special news section with information about the new check-in system, as well as Air Serbia's Facebook, Twitter and Google+ accounts.
A large support team of more than 30 cutover experts from Air Serbia's partner, Etihad Airways will arrive in Belgrade in the run-up to the cutover date, along with a four-man dedicated team from Sabre. These professionals will work around the clock to ensure the smooth transition to the new SabreSonic Check-in system.
Mr Kondić concluded: "The team at Air Serbia is well prepared and fully focused on this important technology upgrade project, and working with our various partners, we look forward to ensuring a smooth and successful cutover later this month."
