Air Serbia crowned champions of Aviation Football Cup
Air Serbia, the national airline of the Republic of Serbia, has won the 2015 Etihad Airways World Aviation Football Cup.
The football tournament was held in Abu Dhabi between 11 and 12 December and saw the participation of 28 teams from international airlines including Emirates, Air Berlin, Kenyan Airways and Virgin Australia.
Air Serbia’s football team clinched the title after defeating a side from Alitalia 5-4 in the closely contested final, with Captain Gavrilo Kandikjan lifting the cup at the awards ceremony on Saturday evening.
Dane Kondić, Chief Executive Officer of Air Serbia, said: “We are all immensely proud of the Air Serbia team for their success in Abu Dhabi, where they faced footballing competition from around the world. Bringing the trophy home to Serbia is a fantastic achievement for our staff, who trained outside working hours over many months to ensure they were in peak form for the tournament. Air Serbia is a strong believer in the positive value of sports, both as a way of keeping fit and teaching values such as team camaraderie, so it’s great to see our staff achieve such success on the pitch. We look forward to defending our new title next year and building on the long and proud tradition of football in Serbia.”
