Air Serbia and EL AL celebrate codeshare partnership agreement

29 March 2016

Air Serbia, the national airline of Serbia, and EL AL Israel Airlines, the national airline of Israel, have celebrated the launch of a codeshare agreement which enhances ties and cooperation between the two airlines.

The new deal allows EL AL to place its “LY” marketing code on Air Serbia’s five weekly flights between Belgrade and Tel Aviv for the IATA summer season which started on Sunday 27 March.

A signing ceremony to formalise the codeshare agreement took place on Monday at EL AL’s First Class Lounge at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv which was attended by senior management from both airlines and H.E. Milutin Stanojevic, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the State of Israel.

Dane Kondić, Chief Executive Officer of Air Serbia, said: “Codeshares are a fundamental part of Air Serbia’s long-term growth strategy and we are delighted to launch this agreement and begin an exciting and mutually-beneficial partnership with EL AL.

“Tel Aviv is an important destination for Air Serbia and this cooperation with EL AL will enable us to grow our business in Israel, a country which shares many cultural and commercial ties with Serbia, and we look forward to welcoming EL AL customers on-board our flights to Belgrade and beyond.”

David Maimon, President and Chief Executive Officer of EL AL, said: “EL AL is pleased to welcome our friends from Air Serbia to Tel Aviv to celebrate this new codeshare partnership which symbolises the depth of friendship between Israel and Serbia.

“The agreement will bring commercial benefits to both airlines and we’re excited to see the first EL AL guests flying between Tel Aviv and Belgrade on the LY code.”

Air Serbia currently operates an Airbus A319 on its five flights a week service between Belgrade and Tel Aviv. The route was launched in December 2013, starting with a four flights per week service.

The Air Serbia flight schedule offers an even balance of flights and connectivity to and from Tel Aviv, via Belgrade, to key destinations in Europe as well as New York JFK from 23 June 2016.
