Seven years of Air Serbia
Today, Air Serbia is celebrating seven years from 26 October 2013 when an A319 aircraft named "Novak Đoković" took off from Belgrade to Abu Dhabi, opening the new chapter in Serbian civil aviation. On this occasion, all those who are travelling with the national airline’s planes today, and who were born on this date, will be gifted an upgrade to a higher class of flight, and access to the Premium Lounge at the Belgrade Airport. In addition to that, all passengers on today’s flights will be served a well-known and beloved Air Serbia treat – a traditional Serbian orasnica walnut cookie.
"For seven years now, Air Serbia has represented the main pillar of the development of tourism in the country and has been contributing to the dynamic growth of air transport, connection with the region and strengthening the national brand. Our birthday comes in specific circumstances, having in mind that we are in the biggest global aviation crisis in recent history. We are aware that challenging times are ahead of us. However, I am convinced that, by quickly adapting to changes, managing our resources rationally, constantly introducing innovations, and primarily, through dedicated work and commitment of our employees, we will manage to turn the present challenges into fuel which will drive our engines, full steam ahead," said Air Serbia CEO Duncan Naysmith.
During the previous year, with 2.81 million carried passengers, the introduction of 23 new routes and the commencement of flights from two more airports in Serbia, the national airline had record results and reported strong growth. In June of this year, another important anniversary was celebrated – 93 years from founding of the first national airline, Aeroput, whose glorious tradition is being cultivated by Air Serbia.
