Air Serbia will fly to Guangzhou twice a week starting today

30 September 2024

With today's flight JU988 at 00:20, Air Serbia has commenced a direct service between Belgrade and Guangzhou in the People's Republic of China. This is the second destination in this Asian country to which the Serbian national airline operates scheduled flights. Flights between the capital of Serbia and the "Gateway to Southern China" will be operated twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays, using Airbus A330-200 aircraft from Air Serbia's long-haul fleet.

The ceremonial send-off for Air Serbia's inaugural flight to Guangzhou was attended by the Republic of Serbia state representatives, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Serbia, His Excellency Li Ming, representatives from aviation authorities and the airline industry, partners and collaborators of the Serbian national airline, and the media.

"The recommencement of flights between Serbia and the People's Republic of China in December 2022 was a significant step for our company and the entire Western Balkan region. At that time, Air Serbia was one of only a few airlines flying to China, so the direct link to Tianjin represented a bridge for economic, cultural, and tourist exchanges between Serbia and this Asian country. With the inclusion of Guangzhou in our network of destinations, we are expanding our presence in China, providing passengers with even more options. Guangzhou is one of the most important industrial and trading centres in the People's Republic of China, and we believe that direct flights to this city will be particularly appealing to the business community, not only in our two countries but also across Europe. Its proximity to Hong Kong and Macau makes this destination very attractive for tourism, especially for those wishing to experience the lifestyle, tradition, and culture of the Greater Bay Area," said Jiri Marek, CEO of Air Serbia.

Guangzhou is a city where the modern and the contemporary intertwine with a rich cultural and historical heritage. The old city districts and enchanting Cantonese gardens make it irresistible to visitors from all over the world. Among the numerous temples, the Temple of the Six Banyan Trees stands out as a symbol of peace and spirituality, with a history of over 1,500 years. This temple offers visitors a unique experience of a Buddhist place of worship. Guangzhou is also renowned for its exceptional culinary tradition, particularly its authentic Cantonese cuisine, characterised by diverse and exotic dishes.

Air Serbia operates flights to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, located 28 kilometres from the city centre. This airport is a key international air hub of China’s national initiative "Belt and Road" and the "Air Silk Road," and it serves as the main airport in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area.

By establishing flights between the capital of Serbia and Guangzhou, Air Serbia has provided passengers with excellent connections from this Asian city, via Belgrade, to destinations such as Malaga, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Barcelona, Berlin, Bologna, Budapest, Paris, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Rome, Frankfurt, Gothenburg, Krakow, Lisbon, Ljubljana, Milan, Oslo, Prague, Podgorica, Venice, Vienna, Valencia, Zurich, and many more.
